  • In the conference, the Prime Minister explained India's approach to building a peaceful, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region, strengthening maritime cooperation and for a balanced Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) packet.

East Asia Summit (EAS)

  • It is a unique platform run by leaders of 18 countries of the Asia-Pacific region, which was formed for the purpose of regional peace, security and prosperity.
  • It has been developed as a platform for strategic dialogue and cooperation on political, security and economic issues, which have common regional concern, which play an important role in regional construction.
  • The concept of East Asia Grouping was first introduced by the Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir-bin-Mohammed in 1991, but it was established in 2005.
  • Among the member countries of the EAS, Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the US are included in 10 countries of ASEAN (Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei and Laos).
  • These six primary areas of regional cooperation come under the EAS love affair- environment and energy, education, finance, issues related to global health and global diseases, natural disaster management and ASEAN connectivity.
