Important point

  • This rating system, launched on the occasion of Green Building Congress 2018 , attempts to act as a complement to the National Enhanced Energy Efficiency Mission and the National Solar Mission .
  • Green Building Kangres 201 8 was the theme of 'Green Built Environment for People and Planet'.
  • Indian Green Building Council is planning to promote 'Net Zero Energy' concept in India.
  • The Indian Green Building Council has also introduced 'Green Building Rating System' for mountainous areas .
  • In India, the concept of 'Net Zero Energy' is to be deducted from 40 to 50 percent in gross energy consumption and 30 percent in prices compared to the national average.

'Net Zero Energy' Buildings

  • Energy requirement of 'Net Zero Energy' buildings is met by renewable energy sources. That is, such buildings produce the necessary energy for themselves.
  • Such homes or buildings, which are capable of producing almost equal energy , are called Near-Zero Energy' Building .
  • Techniques like solar panels, heat recovery systems, geothermal heating and wind turbines can be used to achieve 'Net Zero Energy' status.

Why 'Net Zero Energy' Buildings Need?

  • According to an estimate, by 2030, 40 percent of India's population will start living in cities.
  • Due to the increasing urbanization, it has become necessary that cities should be made energy efficient from the very beginning.
  • The conditions of adequate light, air, hot water and air conditioning are necessary for a comfortable position in any building, but these facilities increase demand for additional energy.
  • During the extra energy production, the quantity of greenhouse gases starts increasing and the environment is damaged.
  • 33% of the emissions of greenhouse gases globally are from buildings.
  • In the construction of 'Net Zero Energy' or Green Buildings , local materials, ecosystems are taken care of, and the most important thing is that they are made to reduce electricity, water and physical needs. Such buildings are environment friendly and resource efficient.
