Why in the discussion?
Clean air campaign launched in New Delhi on November 1, 2018. This campaign will continue till November 10, 2018.
key points
- To closely monitor the pollution-related activities and provide information about this, along with the Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister and the Government of Delhi jointly, 52 teams were released to ensure quick steps.
- These teams will visit various parts of Delhi and its adjoining cities such as Faridabad, Gururgram, Ghaziabad and Noida.
- There will be local sub divisional magistrate team leader in this.
- The representatives of senior officials of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi Municipal Corporation and Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) will also be involved in these teams.
- A pilot project 'Synthetic' was also launched, accelerating efforts to reduce pollution.
- This device will be installed on the rooftops of buses running in cities, which will have a filter. The air entering the filter becomes purified by releasing the microscopic particles on the bus.
- Under this pilot project, these devices have been installed on roofs of 30 buses.
Why in the discussion?
Before the climate talks held in Katowice of Poland in the coming December, India, LMDC i.e. with 'Like Minded Developing Countries' (India, China, Venezuela and Iran) and Basic (Brazil, South Africa, India and China) Organizing important meetings. These two groups play an important role in presenting the concerns of developing countries firmly in front of the world. On November 1, 2018, the first meeting was organized with LMDC.
