Why in the discussion?

Recently, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority has been offered a variety of changes in pension and insurance plans by a panel. These changes are expected to benefit the insured.

key points

  • It has been said in the recommendations made to the Insurance Regulatory Authority that after the introduction of any health insurance policy, all the health related situations should be included under the policy, they can not be permanently excluded.
  • This report states that all health conditions after the beginning of the policy will not include those conditions which are covered under the policy contract (such as infertility and maternity), should be covered under the policy.
  • That means contracted diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, AIDS / HIV infection, deformed obesity etc. can not be boycotted after the onset of the policy.
  • The panel has recommended that there should be no permanent exclusion in the words of the policy for the condition of any specific illness, whether the illness is physical, degeneration or chronic disease.
  • In these recommendations, 17 situations have been described. This includes epilepsy, congenital heart disease, heart disease and valvular heart disease, chronic liver disease, hearing impairments, HIV and AIDS, Alzheimer's, Parkinson etc.
  • In addition, it has also been said that insurers can be allowed to include the waiting period (period when claim is not acceptable) for maximum 4 years in case of any specific illness. Can not be allowed for more than 30 days for hypertension, diabetes, cardiac conditions.
The recommended changes in this report have increased the possibility of affecting the value of the insurance policy. At the same time, the regulator will also have to give a clear definition regarding the excluded circumstances so that any kind of dispute can be avoided in the future and better health facilities can be ensured for everyone.
